As the great Harry Carrey would say: "Holy Cow, what a game!" Yes, what a campaign we've been treated to since early 2007 when tricksters on the varioius TV shows and politcal personalities from both Democratic and Repub parties began to position themselves for the important announcement that "yes indeed, I am a candidate for President of the United States of America.
Now I ask you: Do you remember Tom Tancredo? How about Dennis "the menace" Kucinich, yep, the Bear's favorite Bill Richardson from the great state of New Mexico was an astute candidate, who didn't advance much, mostly because of TV and yes, there was the sure nominee the former mayor of NY and hero of 911 Rudy, who just had too many skeltons in his former Gracie Mansion and was pro-choice, a no no with Repubs. What about Evan Bayh out there in Indiana, a sure bet, who went no where either for Pres or VP. Joe Biden and Chris Dodd, two very promising and experienced Senators were left out in the cold. Finally a strong economic mind and former governor of Massachusetts Mitt (we loved those gloves) Romney battled to the end but went down in flames. Hillary Clinton was a sensational candidate who battled the Democratic nominee to the wire.
Well their all gone and Barack Hussein Obama and John McCain are left standing and have duked it our for several weeks and wait history's mandate. It will come next Tuesday and all ready voters in many states are standing in long lines to vote early! Wow!
The issues have been explained during debates. The writers of the great newspapers and small ones throughout the country have spoken, endorsed, and anyone who hasn't spent at least some time on their friendly computers inhaling information, well so be it.
Tonight Barack Obama will speak to the nation and give what many say is a summation of his thoughts, works, and actions on behalf of his candidacy and that has become a bit controversial.
Yes, he means business. Since McCain will probably wait until Election Eve to speak we leave it to Obama to have his somewhat final say! DON'T MISS THIS SPEECH!

TUESDAY MORNING OCTOBER 28TH
Only seven more days to campaign. Where do these candidates go and what issues do we emphasize? Yes, Barack, we have the $$$$ to finish this race with style. Your bold decision, which has been strongly criticized by McCainites, to pass on federal funds has paid off handsomely. No doubt about it, this organization of Barack Hussein Obama has raised millions to fund a never ending TV campaign, mailers, travel, etc etc etc. He's everywhere from Augusta, Maine to Yuma, Arizona, from Bellingham, Washington to Key West Florida and yep, even to Hawaii! What a fine campaign this young Senator from Illinois has fostered to put him in position to close this very week.
While we talked some foreign issues yesterday and tax differences between the candidates today the Bear wants to call your attention to a major issue all politicians must face, national, state, local etc. in dealing with their constituents: Health Care. McCain has questioned the use of the government to take the lead in forcing companies to have a program for its workers which has been somewhat controversial. McCain has championed the present insurance companies to come up with a program to encourage health care at cheaper rates and would make available $12,000 in rebates to citizens which would have to be targeted for healthcare. He wants the federal government out of the business of healthcare.
The Bear is the radical along with people like Congressman Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, who wants the federal government to guarantee "free" medical care for all Americans from the womb to the tomb! The Bear feels a country without this benefit is and cannot be considered great! What is a great country? A country that wins major wars which, overseen by the Democrats (WW1 and2), or a country which is strong militarily, is a beneficial force in the world, such as our work in the UN, a country that follows a mixture of social benefits (social security, health plans, federal aid to education) and a capitalist country which thrives on the competition between private companies to be leaders in their particular industry. Finally, as the Repubs have proven in the past few weeks, there are times when the Federal Government must step in and lead the way in stimulating the economy. Treasury Secretary Paulson and Fed Chairman Berneke are conservatives who have asked and received from Repubs and Democrats extreme power to affect the economy, the banks, businesses thru their loans, policies and programs designed to regulate, yes regulate the various entities that make the major decisions regarding our economy.
"WHY THATS SOCIALISM!" would moan Sarah Palen who doesn't know a socialist, from a communist, from a capitalist, from a fascist from a free thinking outright democratic government. You know to quote my good friend and your friend and everybody's friend, John McCain, "China's commies, who have lent us a lot of bucks, are nothing but capitalists and Sarah Palen, who has taken money from the US Government for various projects in Alaska, is nothing more than a phony capitlist, who is really pursuing socialistic programs. After all Sarah, you never closed the US Post Offices in Fairbanks, did you?
Now, lets get it straight, the Bear wants the US government to tighten its purse strings, get out of these many countries we have no business in, engage in normal diplomatic and yes, sometimes necessary military efforts and then give our constituents FREE MEDICAL TREATMENT and you bet, he supports everyone getting it as part of our guarantees in this government. The Constitutional basis for it's passage: THE NECESSARY AND PROPER CLAUSE IN THE US CONTITUTION! Common Demos! Lets go Repubs! Lets make it happen with a strong Democratic Congress leading the way and a President ready and willing to sign on.
So there you go Repubs. Yes, I am a LIBERAL! Yes, I am a Teddy Roosevelt Progressive!
Yes, I am a CAPITALIST, who has lost a lot of $$$$ lately in the the Stock Market! Yes, I am a Socialist: I favor Medicare to be changed by the new healthcare policy for free medical care for all Americans, Social Security (You stay away from my Social Security Bush! McCain! Repubs!
I favor the mail being delivered to me each day. Hell, I miss my milkman delivering my milk, like they used to do! I favor the Federal Government giving subsidies to our farmers for programs that will help our farmers compete with governments who compete with us every day for the products that will feed millions over the planet! And on and on and on! This I believe: Franklin Deleno Roosevelt was the greatest president in our history because he was able to influence our government to act in crisis during the Depression and WWII and won both those wars with his ingenuity, confidence, leadership and personality. We have a possible clone of his in the making today.
Now Barack Obama, should you be so honored to become President of the United States make sure you are as aggressive a President as you have been a candidate for office. You must select a Cabinet, which stands for Progressive attention to the major issues that have been created by the worst administration is US history. You must make some appointments of qualified, hard working, intellectuals who are masters in their field. Democrats, Repubs, Libertarians, Independents: WE WANT PROS MAKING THE DECISIONS THAT WILL AFFECT MY KIDS AND GRANDKIDS LIVES IN THE FUTURE.
The Bear is signing off today as he heads for Borders to pick up the latest Nelson DeMille novel.
Peace be to all and common you two candidates for President and you two VP candidates: Lets have a great last week of a campaign to remember. My good friend from San Francisco BobFord, tells me: "You'll be sorry!" The Bear never looks back! Onward and upward to victory: Wait, I've got to get my Barack Obama sign up straight in the front yard! So says the Bear as he prepares for tonights World Series restart of the 5th Game of the Series. Could the Rays benefit from this delay (not Tom Delay).

WOW, ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO!!!
Yep, this is still the Bear visiting with you tonight, Monday, October 27th, just one week from liftoff in one of the greatest, "you bad", exciting, volatile races in American history. Many great adventures will be narrated over the years to come about the variety of candidates, the primaries, the conventions and the campaign which has brought these candidates into community after community all over the US!
Tonight I salute the great former governor of Vermont, chairman of the National Democratic Party for his "50 state" strategy, which has given us a new outlook towards our goals and organization. It was John Dean who said: "No more targeting states like reds and blues. We're going after them all and allied with the famous Obama organization that sure enough has happened!
To achieve this lofty effort, the Democratic Party went to work organizing and rallying a downtrodden party and lent its objectives to the bitterness of the American public, who was saddled with the worst administration in the history of the US but wasn't sure which way it wanted to go in 2008. You bet we Dems want out of Iraq, a fair tax program, a green nation, an economy which grows and benefits all Americans. We Demos must give us not only fair government but honest and genuine, always hard working US Senators and Reps. Remember Mr. and Mrs. America:
We have three branches of the Government: Legislative, Executive, Judicial. All must be respected by our electorate and all must respect their constituents. Somehow during the last 8 years the party in power forgot that!
Then there were the polyglot of candidates which culminated with a newcomer, a charmer, a so called intellect who some called a "rock star", leading his troops with a keen sense of humor, a freshness that captured the minds and hearts of people all over the globe and an organization which defeated "the famous Clintons", considered by most unstopable not too long ago. The Repubs, after another interesting fight, eventually settled on "old money" and came up with Senator John McCain. It appears that Senator Obama's team has been non relenting in their efforts to elect their candidate. Wow, what a team!
If you have been following "Bear Talk" you would have seen the Bear muddling over, meditating on, and going from Richardson to the battle between one of his favorite women, Hillary Clinton (no not the puck head from Alaska) and this new guy Barack Hussein Obama and after several weeks deciding he would go with Obama and you know what? He's made a happy choice.
Now here's why the Bear is supporting Obama:
1. Tax Plan is geared towards the Middle Class, no George Bush type "no taxes but we'll fight two wars. McCain first opposed Bush"s tax program and later voted for it! He now wants a no tax plan that will favor the upper classes in our society, just like W's plan, in otherwords the old Repub "trickle down" program which has always been the stuff of Repub tax programs.
2. And what about the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan? Well, with McCain, we get more of the same watchful waiting and spending which has led to the divided and maybe disinterested Iraqui government to more or less want us out of there soon! Well if Barack gets in there it will be an important ingredient in his foreign policy to put an end to this disgraceful event in US History.
About Afghanistan, the Bear isn't too sure we should be in there either. It would not be my policy to chase thru the mountains of Afghanistan after good old Osama and give weapons to all sorts of characters over there like we did when the Russians were there only to have them fall into the hands of the enemy. What we need is to bring the troops out of unneeded spots throughout the world and train the hell out of them, build up an organized and ready force and
be ready for any major, I say major undertaking we may be called upon to rectify. Now get this:
Iraq was not an ally of the US. Greece, Turkey, South Korea, Israel, GB, France and Germany, plus a few more are part of our network of Allies. I say honor all present alliances and build on diplomatic efforts to deal with our adversaries thru nation to nation efforts and thru the UN! Yes, the UN can work! McCain is not the person to lead this effort, Obama yes!
The Bear will address other issues in this pivotal and important week in American history!
It is necessary for the Democrats to gain control of both Houses of Congress by healthy majorities and then it will be our ballgame to engage in positive programs to improve our standing in the world and strengthen a military which presently is in disaray. I don't like to criticize our military leaders but Bush's and McCain's total dependence of General Petraus has gone from a respectful acceptance of his views on every policy to a dangerous dependence on his views on everything from Iraq to Iran to Korea to Pakistan to Syria. Where I come from your Commander-in-Chief (we do not have one now), a civilian is in charge of the military, not some general out there.
More to say tomorrow on the Economy and I'll give you and Barack a hint: THERE ARE MANY AMERICANS OUT THERE WITHOUT JOBS, MEDICAL CARE AND WITH EACH DAY IT GETS WORSE. Remember the really bad time in the Depression of the Thirties took place between November when the great FDR was elected and March (they inaugurated in March then) when he took office. We need major programs ala "The New Deal" to put our American labor force back to work. Should we be so fortunate to win next Tuesday, we must and should start to prepare for January 20th when we will be carrying the ball for the American people, and I mean ready! Enough, its World Series time!

ORGANIZATION!
One of the main reasons I settled on Barack Obama in the Democratic battle for President came when I realized that the Senator from Illinois had built a masterful organization, outshining the Clinton team. I can't remember when it came to me that this was the way to victory in November, but as any winning coach will tell you: "WE WIN WITH ORGANIZATION!"
In coaching the head man must have his asst coaches, his managers, his players, everyone who touches his team, on the same page. His players must know and believe in what the head coach is selling and if you have the talent that spells success, you will win.
Who ever and wherever this juggernaut of a machine got it's start with Barack Hussein Obama, it has made itself felt throughout each and every state wherein it has arrived. The Obama team has been relentless and brilliant in its moves and it's candidate has been a master taking the ball and running through the right hole and given a sensational talent for his presentation of his politics, has stimulated his followers and independents to boot.
Now, as we enter the last thirty days of the campaign it appears this organization is paying off in state after state. We are hearing of canvassers, telemarketers, voter registration experts, people driving people to vote absentee, students not just talking the talk, but vowing to actually vote this year etc etc etc. THESE OBAMAITES MEAN BUSINESS!
The McCain campaign has featured a series of changes in leadership, whiney back biting, negative blasts from frantic Repubs, taking their orders from a leader many think incapable of
operating without chaos and the same old cliches of yesteryear, "no taxes", "Iraq Forever!", "deregulation is the way", "privatize Social Security", "No socialism on my watch!"
The ultimate in bad judgment occured when the Senator from Arizona selected Sarah Palin for his Vice Presidential runningmate. With some very talented people available out there inlcluding George Romney, an economic wizzard who would certainly have some solid answers on the present crisis in our economy, a likeable and talented former Governor from Arkansas who showed promise for the future, several young and likeable Republicans to stimulate the voters. He chose what has become a major liability to his campaign, an individual who shows total ignorance in a variety of issues, which can and must be mastered by an individual who might be President.
Of course Bush always prided himself in his lack of knowledge and disdain for accumulating information about local, state, and international issues and was recognized by people all over the world for the stiff he is! Thank God, he will no longer be with us come January 20th.
The total disdain McCain showed for Obama in their first debate is a lack of preparation for the big game and when voters all over the US got the opportunity to see these two together, they could immediately recognize Barack gets it and McCain and his Bushie buddies are living in a past which featured some of the worst and lazy governance in American history.
No let up Barack. You have perservered to this moment! You have earned what will be a great victory for America and the world so don't let up, and roar to the finish line with your fine organization delivering the vote before and on election day! Go get em!
