WHAT A GAS!

If your a political nutcase like the Bear, yesterday wasn't just Super Bowl Sunday, it was a major political day for both parties as the presidential hopefuls raced from state to state making their case for the upcoming "Super Tuesday" primaries in 22 states.

As a supporter of the fine senator from Illinois the prolific Barack Obama and totally respectful to the junior senator from NY, who I admire greatly, the Bear has enjoyed this battle and had a hard time making a decision, made only last week. to go with the young, brilliant (ask Oprah:
"I'm not voting for him because he's black. I'm voting for him because he's brilliant!), exciting and just plain smart Obama.

Yesterday at the stadium made famous by the great John Wooden basketball teams of yesteryear, I'm talkin about UCLA, a special rally took place, led by the beautiful and regaling
wife of the senator, Michelle, and featuring such great ladies as Caroline Kennedy, Oprah, and later the entrance of the first lady of California, the sensational Maria Shriver, all vigorously leading an electric , huge crowd, supporting Barack. It was the pep rally of pep rallies and it was memorable! It's one of the reasons the Bear is supporting this young, former Illinois Senator who has only been a US Senator for a short time. To quote no one in particular:
"He is inspiring and makes me feel great and so is his lawyer wife from Princeton, daughter of a civil service worker from south Chicago (probably White Sox fans, hopefully not Blackhawk followers!)

Its wonderful watching the enemy, engaged in a struggle which is getting very nasty out there between the conservatives and moderates of the Republican Party! Listening to the great Rush moan and groan makes me want to do the Fox Trot in fast time! I have been told by a not so impecable source, Mr. Robert Ford of Menlo Park, CA that Ed Beck quoted the noted blonde
zombie Ann Coulter as saying if McCain gets the nomination, she will vote for Hillary!" While our tent in the party of the people is quite large, I'm not so sure we could extend an invitation to her to come on over. Ann: "You just stay put!"

My hair stylist told me this morning as she beautified me, "This is so exciting, I'm scared!"
"I don't know who I'm going to vote for tomorrow!" I was reminded of two of the greatest political leaders ever: FDR (genuflect) "The only thing you have to fear is fear itself!" and Elinor Roosevelt,Mrs FDR (bow) "Every morning when you awaken, vow to do something which will scare you!"
Mrs. Arnold Schwarznager used this yesterday as she joined her niece Caroline on the stage, having only made the decision to bolt from her husband's support of John McCain.

This is one of the greatest political campaigns of all time, followed day by day, by the likes of C-Span, CNN, and MSNBC. I told the young beautician, as she snipped off slivers of my hair,
to enjoy and have fun making her decision on whether to vote for the first woman in American history, who might be president or the first black in American history who might occupy the White House.

Meanwhile I fought with myself because I have such great respect for Hillary, and resent some snide comments about the smart young lady, also originally from Chicago, about which of these two talented candidates to support! If Hillary wins the nomination, I will be the first one to cheer her victory and prepare for the general election. But the Bear just plain thinks Obama is the future and he is totally inspiring, not onlyto the younger generation, but old farts like me, and yes he reminds me of the hysteria that was created by a young Massachusets senator in 1960.

He's got bizzazz!

To quote one of my all time favorites of TV Land, Dave Garroway, the original star of the Today show, as he showed the palm of his hand to this constiuency, glued to their 13 in TV sets (son Slater still has this kind of tv), "PEACE!"
