WHY I'M A DEMOCRAT AND ALWAYS WILL REMAIN THE SAME

Thursday of this week should be a fun day for all political nuts like me because it is the real start of the Presidential cycle. In Iowa we will have the Caucuses in the small hamlets, cities, farms, schools etc of this great midwest state! Ever been to a caucus? Well for you non politicos, it means you are giving up an evening of TV etc to make your choice for Pres known within your political party.

I invite you to tune in to C-Span 1 and 2 to see how these caucuses function. One word to the wise to all Iowans who might be reading this editorial: Make sure you get there early: If it says 7:30 definitely be there by 7. They can close the doors on you if you are not on time and they will!

If you want to be elected as a delegate make sure you are heard although chances are the political
entities will have already a slate of would be delegates to the next level supporting your candidate.
A bit of strategy: I might say I'm for Biden and if he doesn't get the necessary majority to be viable in the caucus (15%) you will have one chance to move to a stronger caucus: This is the time to weigh what it would take say to move to Hillary's or Barak's group. This whole process normally will take about 2 to 3 hours depending on the number of people at your caucus. In some small communities there might only be 15 people on hand while in the cities usually you would find around 100 or so, maybe even more!

WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD COME OUT IN JANUARY IN IOWA? Good question and it will be the job of the organizations to get their people out there to take their stand.

Some primary lovers (I'm not one) feel the caucus is undemocratic. I say atttending and participating in a caucus is the ultimate in your loyalty to your particular candidate and in 1980 I had the privilege of representing Jimmy Carter to the State of Mo Democratic Caucus and then was selected at large as an alternate to the Democratic Convention in New York. (Bring your credit cards!) I also was selected as one of the Democratic Electors for Mo in 1980. Guess what: I didn't get to cast my electoral vote because Ronnie Reagan (Bonzo goes to College) won the Presidency and the Republican electors cast the vote for Mo. Awwwwww!

I will have more to say on why on should affiliate with a party and why the Independent voter is not really independent.

One bloggy blogger accused the Bear of voting for Nixon! I must admit to never having voted for a
candidate of the Republican Party ever!!!!!! Many of my best friends however voted for the pretender who occupies the White House today, "He's not my President!"

Enough already the Bear recommends you watch the C-Span network to enhance your knowledge on how the would be President of the United States starts the process in Iowa on Thursday and then next week its off to New Hampshire for round two, time well spent! So says the Bear!

Keep an eye on the GOP dark horse, Ron Paul. He's smart and has a very aggressive support network. Count on them to show up on caucus day, Mitty.

Given the surprise Kucinich statement issued yesterday in favor of Obama, the Dems can expect him to be strong coming out of the gate. HOWEVER, defections to the Edwards camp will put Johnny boy on top by four percent. Hillary will lag Barack by 8, and Joe Biden will be found drunk and naked in the Des Moines Town Hall fountain, making out with Kucinich's wife.

I'm not sure whom will be making out with whom. Biden and Ms. Kuchinich? Could be. Fred Thompson and the wife who does not like to be called a trophy? It may make them feel better on caucus night because Fred is not going to make out well otherwise. Bill and Hill? I'm sure the tabloids will have him MIA when she needs him most.

But on to more important topics like "who is going to win?" I know Obama is up in the latest polls, but I'm pulling for Edwards and like Tim's prediction that John will come out on top. My prediction is that Edwards wins Iowa, Hillary wins New Hampshire and then it's down to a two-person Democratic race after Super Tuesday. Will it be HIllary and John? Or Hillary and Obama?

And what of the Republicans? Is it possible that McCain is back? Is it down to McCain and Mitt? Rudy seems to have disappeared.

What a better reason to love Biden! He parties, gets surly, and gets the girl!

The Bear spoke eloquently of a wonderful political process for the Democrats in Iowa. The Republicans have an immensely abbreviated caucaus process in Iowa, largely because there aren't that many.

I've had enough of people questioning "Why Iowa?" Iowa, thoughout the decades, has been a wonderful litmus test for our presidential hopefuls. They are inquisitive, and very active in their citizenship! They really put these candidates through their paces. It's a great way to start to separate the schmoes from the candidates with real character.

It is fun to watch Huckabee upstage Guiliani just in sheer sincerity and depth. At the next debate, Rudy should just point at Mike and say "I want to be like him when I die!" Then keel over.

While I like Biden, it looks like America is leaning toward someone younger. That leaves either Obama or Edwards. Hillary just isn't sincere enough. I really believe Huckabee will take all the
Republicans by storm. While the Dems think they have an advantage, I think it's going to be close. (Yep..Huckabee's that good). Final prediction...if Edwards wife falls further ill (God forbid), he gets the sympathy vote and he's a shoe-in. If not, it's Obama. Both will prove to be great leaders.

For the Dems, for the future, one issue is paramount: wresting control of this country from corporate America.

Iraq, the environment, energy, food supply, health care, etc., are irrelevant unless that step is taken first.

One person has stated this as his agenda.

"They're going to give their power away when we take their power away." John Edwards.

Bring it, John.
